Pedigree Cat Breeds- Asian Tiffanie

The Tiffanie is the semi-longhaired member of the Asian Cat family. Originally Asian cats resulted from an accidental mating in 1982 between a Chinchilla 'Jemari Sanquist' and a lilac Burmese 'Bambino Faberge' both owned by Baroness Miranda Von Kirchberg. When the litter was born they were very beautiful striking black silver kittens and Miranda decided to try and develop a new breed, these kittens were called Burmillas and they all carried the Long hair gene from their father. Tiffanies were produced in the next generation and several breeders worked hard to promote them but the long hair gene being recessive is hard to keep and as breeders found they had to keep mating to Burmese to maintain type it wasn't until 2003 that the Tiffanie gained full Championship status by the GCCF.

The Tiffanie is a medium size cat not extreme in type and is very lively and intelligent. Their head should form a short balanced wedge wide at the cheekbones tapering to a blunt muzzle and forming an equilateral triangle between the ears and tip of their nose. The nose should be straight with the tip of the nose leather in line with the chin which should be firm and of good depth. The ears are broad at the base with rounded tip set well apart and have a slight forward tilt with ear tufts and streamers. The eye shape and set is distinctive large and lustrous and set wide apart giving a unique expression typical of Asians and Burmese.

Tiffanies are truly cats with coats of many colours and patterns in all, 34 colours both silver and non-silver and 7 coat patterns. It has a silky medium length coat, which does not tangle and needs no more grooming than a short hair. Their tail should be plume like and they should have a ruff and breeches but they can take two or more years to fully mature and develop their full coat.

Like their shorthaired relatives Tiffanies are very people orientated, love company and need space to play. They are kittens that don't grow up and are talkative; like children they always want to have the last word! Tops of doors are favourite places to 'hide' and they will leap from the floor and expect to be caught. Their inquisitive nature often leads them into trouble and it is safest to cat proof your garden if you let them out. The side of the bath is another favourite place especially if you are in it, they are not afraid of getting wet! They will play for hours with a bit of silver paper and can be taught to 'fetch' especially if, as is usual, they have a favourite toy. These are cats for people who want the whole cat experience but they can be quite possessive and although they will share you happily with children, other cats and dogs it has to be firmly understood that they are 'the Boss'
