I would like to announce the arrival of the American Highlander kittens.
Born during the last couple of hours

3 White and 1 Silver tabby, some have polytoes it won't be known until a few days on whether they will have curled ears, all have full tails.

Mother and Babies all appear to know what they are doing.

They are the first litter of Highlanders to be born in the UK/Europe and anywhere outside of the USA.

I am over the Moon.

Penny :D

Please note I am not sure yet how these kittens will develop so do not know whether they will stay for breeding or be offered as pets. None will be offered for show as they will all be tailled and have poly feet.

Tailled, Docked tailled, and Polydactol are not sutable for showing but are perfectly fine as part of a breeding group.
We do not dock tails in the UK.

Hi Villaroel. I am lucky with the Highlanders in as much as I can outcross to a domestic. However you do need a breeding pair and I have still to buy my male I am hoping he is on the way soon. Penny :D

Hi penny,

Quick question :)

Your kits are gorgeous as well as all the other highlanders!

When you say you can outcross to a domestic how is this possible when they are an established breed in their own right?

Highlanders are an up and coming breed in their own right. We are still working to get them to champ status. They did really well at the Thundercats show yesterday. I am awaiting the show results from the states so this will be later today. However they still need to have outcrosses to build upon the breed as we still do not have enough lines. In order to do this we need outcrosses. Just like any other up and coming breed. The Selkirks outcrossed to BSH, Persian and Exotics. We however do not allow for any outcrosses to any known breed hence only DSH allowed. If we use a known breed for an attribute it can bring to improve our breed it is accepted at registry however for our honesty and integrity it goes back to the start as a non permissable outcross. Once enough strong lines have been built and no changes are to be made then the outcrosses will cease. All new breeds start this way. Bengals. Selkirks etc. Penny
