Hi everybody,

In urgent need of some advice. I bought my daughter a lovely kitten for her birthday a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine until this morning when she rang me to say that he has been vomiting along with diarrhoea as he is being sick. I don't think he has been vaccinated and am not sure when he should be. Is it 12 weeks or should he have had a course of them starting when we bought him? Could this be a cause? He is eating whiska's kitten food and has whiskas cat milk. He is otherwise fine in himself but i am concerned.

Many Thanks
Sheila :(

Hi Sheila :)
My kitten had vaccinations done at 9 weeks and 12 weeks old, this completes the course. If your daughter's kitten hasn't started his course he should do now as soon as poss.
If this goes on for a few hours and is not a one off, I would take him to the vet. Presumably he doesn't go out? He could have swallowed something he shouldn't have or chewed a house plant :? Make sure he is kept well hydrated and keep a close eye on him :)

Sheila, deworm him and stop the kitten milk he maybe intolerant to it, also if she uses pouches their may have been a slight puncture in it and the food be less than fresh. Penny :D

I would agree with Penny, it might be the kitten milk, or might just need worming, :? but you could always ring your vet for advice ,and maybe take the kitten for a check up,if it carries on for the rest of today :(

i also agree with penny and vj. i had a kitten at this age, same problem. i wormed using panacur paste for kittens, put the kitten on tesco supermeat and water. after 2 days the kitten was fine. if the kitten looks or feels ribby then the vet can give a saline injection to hydrate the kitten so it will feel stronger to feed. i found whiskas in gravy a no no as it was too rich. try a change of diet first but please dont leave such a young kitten for long as they go downhill very fast.
hope this helps. :D

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your replies! We have bought some panacur and have made an appointment for a check up and vaccinations. Think we best leave the cat milk for now until we have seen the vet. Haven't given him any food as yet, he has just been drinking water but sems fine in hmself. This website is a godsend!!

Thanks again :) :) :)

Sure is, don't know what I would do without everyone on the forum :D
I'm really glad he is OK, drinking lots of water will do him good for now. They are such a worry as kittens, my baby is being neutered tomorrow and I have been anxious about it for days - silly really

Glad you have got a few replies Sheila, we all come here with any problems,as there is always good advice,
Em, Dexter should be fine, the only one i have had problems with is the leukaemia one, Princess was very poorly after that one,so just keep an eye on him if hes having that one,she was in a lot of pain and limping after it :(

As with VJ, I had a problem with a leukaemia vaccination., although recommended by Petplan for insurance purposes I still do not have it administered. It is down to the new owner to undertake this if they decide their kitten or cat is to be an indoor/outdoor cat, in the case of outdoor cats it is advisable that the new owner has this done, better done as a seperate vaccination the 3-1 is enough for a tiny system to cope with. This however is only my opinion based on past experience. Penny :D

If you are having the leukaemia one done Em, i would suggest you have it done as a seperate one, as Penny said, some vets do that in with the others now, but it can be done on its own,if you ask before you take the cat, as they might have to order it in
Princess didnt need it as she is an indoor cat :)
