how much tortie colouring does a cat need to be classed as a tortie. my kitten is silver but the end of her tail is tortie, is she then classed as a silver tortie for the cat shows. :D

Torties vary in how much tortie marking they have admittedly but they can only be a tortie if they have the right genes.

Yes she would. However she would not be suitable for showing with only a small amount of red on her tail. She would need an intermingling all over. I had a silver like yours described years ago. It wasn't until she was ready to leave that I realized she was a female. long hairs are not always as easy as the short hairs due to the amount of fur covering. Their needs to be red in the mating to get a tortie. If you want loads of reds either do an all red /cream mating or tortie girl to red/cream male. Penny :D

thankyou penny. this is where i get confused with the colouring as the queen is a brown tabby but has lots of reddish colouring in her coat. the sire is silver so i thought this kitten would be a silver. it has reddish colouring on the coat which doesnt look like its going to go any time soon.
question is the sires mum is tortie and his dad is red silver and the sire is a silver but doenst carry dilute. would it matter too much at registration if she is good enough for breeding if i put her down as silver. obviously if she does go to a pet home its not going to matter. :D
